Weekly Finds Painted - Frame

Sometimes there is so much detail in a item that you need to paint it so the detail shines.

I thought I'd give the gold a chance on this frame and dry brush with white leaving the gold in the recessed areas to help the details shine.

Here is the frame before paint.  The natural wear of the frame shined up the details in some areas to accent them just enough to notice them.

Adding the dry brush was certainly fast and easy with some pretty fun results.

Dry brushing is taking most of the paint off and then painting a newspaper or cardboard until most of the paint is gone and then paint the item just hitting the high spots.  This also saves you time when waxing.... no need to dark wax.

I'm not totally convinced this is the best color choice yet but the good thing about paint is you can just paint over it if you don't like it.  I'm also not sure what I'm going to do with the frame.  Thought about hanging it in the living room with the letter H inside.  Making a back for a chalkboard....

Right now I just leaned it inside my empty mason jar box.

Painted Weekly Finds - Dragon Fly Planter

It's been too cold to buy plants for the patio and that was my plan for this dragon fly planter but of course I couldn't wait.

The planter got a coat of Chalk Spray Paint with a bit of distressing and clear wax.

Then I needed to add something to the front to make it fun.  I tried handles, knobs, junk metal pieces..... and then this dragon fly caught my eye.

Remember how this planter looked before paint?

The dragon fly was clear plastic so he got a squirt of coral and aqua spray chalk paint.

Added the twine just for another layer.

Quite the transformation huh?

Weekly Finds 4/24/16

Weekly finds are pretty fun this week.  This vintage owl planter is a hoot.

When these things are cheap enough they are fun to use as painted planters

Thought this wood bowl would make a fun painted chips and salsa (summer suppers) holder.

This jewelry box had good bones and details.

The inside is a fun orange in really good shape.

A concrete plant stand heavy enough to withstand our windy springs on the prairie.

How about some boxes that were built in China to ship molds across the pond?

Wine Rack

Weather is getting warmer and I will apologize in advance for lack of posts.  I have no idea why we even own a house in the summer months because we are never in it.  I make chips and salsa for supper 3 days a week and for a special night we get pizza..... yes I know that's not good but when our days get longer we try to squeeze so much into them that eating and cooking has no room in our schedule.

Painting does fit into my schedule but taking the pictures.... not so much.  So again I will do my best to keep this blog current with some items to show you what I'm up to.

However there will be lots that you won't see until July when my sister-in-law and I have our annual Jazzed Up Junk Sale.  Somethings are just worth the wait.

Here was the wine rack before paint.

It's painted in a great grey color with white edges.

I am the fruit snack Grandma so of course I have a jar full of them for every visit.  This is a jar I showed from my weekly finds and the trivet it's sitting on is also a weekly find.

The wine rack is distressed because I am a distress lover..... everything needs to be distressed in my world.

Oh you noticed the empty wine bottles..... yeah I don't drink wine so finding bottles to fill this rack was a bit difficult and all I had was empty bottles.

And the full ones...... them is OLD..... and were probably given to us.

The edges of the wine rack are painted in white.  I am loving grey and white together and for this item it just worked.

Did you need another before and after?

Okay here it is.

Weekly Finds 4-17-16

We just had a fantastic weekend with unbelievable warm temperatures for April.  We've all been waiting for these days and they are finally here.  I'm sure we will get some cool days again but we sucked up the sun as much as we could for now.  Kayaking season has begun..... and so has garage sale season.

Let's get to the weekly finds.  This tools box was a nice size and in good shape.

Someone took lots of time to make this divider frame for the inside.  So far I can't think of what would possibly go in those grids but the whole thing is removable in one piece.

I loved this flour container, perfect cottage look for up north.  A little cleaning and this has found a new home on my cabinet at the cottage.

Flower hangers

A funny looking lantern.

Wood and metal candle cup holder.

A old liquor bottle

The label was peeled off just the way I liked it.

Perfect vase

I love these sugar jars as vases as well.

I like them painted but until then I couldn't wait and had to put one of the daffodils in it.

A nice frame - love, love, love all that detail.... color, not so much.

Can't you see this basket used as a planter for the patio?

A brass bowl.

With a hammered finish

John came with Gayle and I on Saturday and he scored this tray.  Which was a great way to make him happy as we junk shopped.

Skelton keys.

weekly finds

A couple items from last week came home with me.  I'm not usually in the market for flower pots since I have so many already but this one caught my eye from across the store.

Beautifully cracked WHITE paint, old pottery and in great shape.  One of my plants this summer will look stunning in this pot, and for under $1 makes it even more perfect.

My mom had polka dot glasses like these so when I seen these polka dots in drinking glasses I had to have them.  Mom's were tall and narrow at the bottom like a ice cream glass but these will make perfect vases for those summer flowers.

The dots are etched into the glass.

This wood drawer box thing was kinda fun.

And very gross.  I'm not sure where some people have this stuff before bringing it to the store but it's kinda disgusting to think about what some of this dirt might be.

Wash hands after touching..... kinda finds.  Hand sanitizer comes in handy for these finds.

Last I found this table.

Good solid table with someone's art project written on top.

Not to worry that mess will be gone soon.  I'm thinking some changes need to happen to the construction on the table too so Mr Hemmer will need to put his happy eyes in and come on out and help me.
